Well, with all of this simplistic complexity, you would still think that we could have solved some of the most basic problems that our society faces today. We’ve managed to put people on the moon, but there are still a bunch of elevators out there on which you can’t deselect floors. We can fly around the world in less than a day, but there are toll booths out there that only accept coins....

However, the powers that these characters possess aren’t the only unreal aspects of the media they inhabit; their entire universe is built to support and contain these powers. Even the advertised “realistic” depictions like the classic Watchmen or the ill-fated TV series Heroes ask you to suspend a great deal of belief about their world. While it’s only natural to dream of having the amazing abilities that make many superheroes and supervillans…well…super, we usually don’t think about the implications that having those powers would carry in a world like ours....

It’s a serious issue no doubt, and it has the potential to turn our society on its head if it’s not addressed. However, today we’re going to be doing something else. In a rather light-hearted way, we’re going to take a look at the things that rich people and poor people actually have in common. Okay, not entirely in common. While both groups use these things in one way or another, they typically use them completely differently....
